Description
DS3800NMEC1K1K is a Motor Exciter Control Board manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the Mark IV Series used in Speedtronic controlI systems. All of the programming data is stored on its 35 integrated circuits. EEPROMs and EPROMs are two different types of integrated circuits. The black knob with a white arrow in the center designates the variable resistor.

System hardware features
1 The Mark IV panel's hardware was created with a number of goals in mind. One of them called for a base design that, with the exception of removing or adding an extra card, module, or connection, could satisfy 95% of the hardware requirements of the customer panel. This goal was to ensure that the software setup could accommodate the needs of the client. Although the design passed the test of being tested against previous requirements, only time will tell how successful we will be able to satisfy consumers' future needs.
2 The ability to fix the panel while the turbine was spinning was another goal. It took a lot of work to create a panel configuration that allows most of the components to be changed out quickly and safely while the panel is powered up and operating a turbine. It was necessary to build the panel using physically manageable modules in order to achieve simple repairability. With the exception of the black start inverter, which is being updated to Mark IV specifications, this objective has been accomplished. It was necessary to use pluggable cables as much as possible rather than screw terminals for electrical connections.
3 Module replacement is completed quite rapidly as a result. Another advantage of using cables is that fewer wiring mistakes occur during module installation, leading to more reliable repairs. All changeable wiring modules have been removed for maximum reliability. There have been numerous printed wiring backplane conversions.
