Description
The RDCU-12C is a high-performance drive control unit for ABB's ACS800 series frequency converters. As the core of the drive system, it integrates Direct Torque Control (DTC) technology to ensure high-speed, precise motor control and signal processing. This unit features a compact hardware structure, a built-in RMIO interface board, and communicates with the power unit via fiber optic technology. It also undergoes a reinforced coating treatment to withstand harsh industrial environments. As a core component of industrial automation, the RDCU-12C boasts high reliability and excellent electromagnetic interference (EMC) immunity.
Applications
Large steel/aluminum plants: Used in transmission systems requiring high dynamic response, such as rolling mills and coilers.
Chemical/pharmaceutical plants: Control of large reactor agitators and centrifuges.
Water plants/sewage treatment plants: Variable frequency control of large centrifugal pumps and blower units.
Cement plants/mining plants: Crusheres, ball mills, and long-distance belt conveyors.
Features
3 analog inputs - differential, common mode voltage ±15 V, galvanically isolated as a group, one ±0(2) to 10 V, resolution 12 bit, two 0(4) to 20 mA, resolution 11 bit
2 analog outputs - 0(4) to 20 mA, resolution 10 bit
7 digital inputs - galvanically isolated as a group (can be split in two groups), Input voltage 24 V DC, Filtering (HW) time 1 ms
3 digital (relay) outputs - Changeover contact, 24 V DC or 115/230 V AC, Max. continuous current 2 A
Reference voltage output: ±10 V ±0.5%, max. 10 mA
Auxiliary power supply output: +24 V ±10%, max. 250 mA
Mechanical installation
The unit can be mounted on a vertical or horizontal 35 × 7.5 mm DIN rail.
The unit should be mounted so that air can freely pass through the ventilation holes
in the housing. Mounting directly above heat-generating equipment should be
avoided.

FAQ
Q: Why does my newly purchased RDCU-12C fail to run after installation?
A: This module is usually a bare board without pre-installed application software. You need to reload the firmware according to the SW TYPE on the driver nameplate to boot.
Q: Are RDCU-12C and RDCU-02C interchangeable?
A: RDCU-12C is usually an enhanced or replacement model of RDCU-02C, but there may be differences in physical dimensions and some cable connectors. You must check the official compatibility table before replacing it.
Q: Can I power the RDCU-12C separately with an external power supply for debugging?
A: Yes. Connect an external 24V DC power supply via the X34 interface. This allows you to read parameters and fault history via the control panel even in the event of a power outage in the main circuit.
Q: What is the maximum recommended distance for fiber optic connections when using RDCU-12C?
A: For standard plastic fiber (POF), the recommended maximum distance is 10 meters. Exceeding this distance may cause communication errors (CH1 related errors).
Q: Will the onboard Real-time Clock Battery in RDCU-12C affect operation when depleted?
A: It will cause the clock to reset, resulting in inaccurate timestamps for fault records, but it will not affect basic control functions. It is recommended to replace the CR2032 type battery every 5–10 years.
