Description

5461-650 is a T/C Input Board developed by Woodward.Thermocouples are widely used in various industries to measure temperature accurately and reliably. They consist of two different metal wires ioined together at one end. which generate a voltage proportional to the temperature difference between the joined end and the measuring point. It acts as an interface between the thermocouples and the control system, allowing for precise temperature monitoring and control.

Applications

Thermal power plants: Used for high-temperature monitoring of boilers, turbines, and bearings with strong anti-interference capability.

Petrochemical plants: Applied in cracking furnaces and reactors for accurate thermocouple signal transmission.

Steel mills: Suitable for blast furnaces and converters, providing reliable high-temperature data acquisition.

Glass manufacturing plants: Used for continuous monitoring of melting and annealing furnaces with low heat generation.

Waste incineration plants: Supports multi-channel temperature control for furnaces and flue gas systems.

Features

Connect terminals 16 and 19 to enable rated speed. Closing terminal 19 applies 20–40 Vdc for operation above idle; opening it returns the prime mover to idle.

Use shielded actuator wires on terminals 20(t) and 21, with the shield connected only to terminal 22 and isolated from other surfaces.

For remote Speed Trim, jumper terminals 23 and 24. A 100 Ω potentiometer provides about 5% speed adjustment.

Input deviation alarms occur when a channel differs from the voted-good value beyond the Max Deviation setting, usually 1% of range. The channel remains active in voting logic unless other channels fail.

Troubleshooting

The module supports J or K thermocouples, selected in the application program. An onboard AD592 sensor measures ambient temperature for cold junction compensation, improving measurement accuracy.

Two versions are available: fail high and fail low. Jumper settings determine whether open inputs are pulled high or low, preventing unstable readings.

Each input channel is multiplexed to a voltage-to-frequency converter. The processor converts the signal into counts and sends the data through the transceiver module to the LINKnet controller for network communication.

FAQ

Q: What is the input impedance of 5461-650?
A: The input impedance is 2.0 MΩ.

Q: How are inputs handled in 5461-650 TMR applications?
A: Inputs are sent to three I/O modules, and outputs are voted to remove incorrect values.

Q: How are outputs managed in 5461-650?
A: Analog outputs are summed for fault tolerance, while relay outputs use fault-tolerant relays.

Q: Can field devices be replicated in 5461-650 TMR systems?
A: Yes, devices can be replicated or triplicated for higher reliability.

Q: How is configuration managed for 5461-650?
A: Application software manages configurations and TMR redundancy functions.
