Description
The remote S900 I/O system can be installed in non-hazardous areas or directly in Zone 1 or Zone 2 hazardous area depending on the selected system variant. S900 I/O communicates with the control system level using the PROFIBUS DP standard. The I/O system can be installed directly in the field, therefore the costs for marshalling and wiring are reduced.
The system is sturdy, error-tolerant and easy to service. Integrated disconnection mechanisms allow replacement during operation, meaning that there is no need to interrupt the primary voltage in order to exchange the power supply units.
S900 I/O type S. For installation in hazardous area Zone 1. For connecting intrinsically safe field devices installed in Zone 2, Zone 1 or Zone 0.
AI931S 3KDE175511L9310 Analog Input (AI4H-Ex), passive inputs for 0/4...20 mA.
Applications
Large petrochemical plants: Used in intrinsically safe explosion-proof areas to receive flow or pressure data from a four-wire transmitter (externally powered).
Fine chemical plants: Areas handling highly volatile solvents, supporting explosion-proof field equipment with HART communication.
Specialty pharmaceutical plants: Suitable for cleanrooms or production workshops with explosive dust/gas risks.
Features and benefits
- ATEX Certification for installation in Zone 1
- Redundancy (Power and Communication)
- Hot Configuration in Run
- Hot Swap functionallity
- Extended Diagnostic
- Excellent configuration and diagnostics via FDT/DTM
- G3 – coating for all components
- Simplified maintenance with auto-diagnostics
- Passive inputs for 0/4...20 mA
- Short and break detection
- Electrical isolation between input / bus and input / power
- Common return for all inputs
- 4 channels
- Transmission of HART frames via the fieldbus
- Cyclic HART variables
Troubleshooting
4-Wire Loop Error: If the "non-powered" mode is not correctly set when connecting 4-wire instruments, the module may falsely report an overcurrent due to detecting external current.
HART Signal Loss: Check the loop impedance (typically >230Ω).
Check if the capacitance/inductance (Ci/Li) of the intrinsically safe cable is within the explosion-proof calculation limits.
Short Circuit/Open Circuit Monitoring: The module provides real-time loop diagnostics; fault information is transmitted back to the control system via PROFIBUS or Ethernet bus.
Maintenance
Hot-swappable in Hazardous Zones: Supports live module replacement in Zone 1 hazardous areas without a hot work permit (must comply with on-site safety procedures).
HCIR Function: Supports configuration modification while the system is running, such as switching the channel from 2-wire to 4-wire mode without stopping the system.
Base Compatibility: Must be installed on an S900 Type S (blue intrinsically safe) base.
FAQ
Q: What is the AI931S 3KDE175511L9310?
A: It is a Analog Input Module.
Q: What is the difference between AI931S and AI930S?
A: AI930S is primarily designed for 2-wire transmitters, while AI931S adds native support for 4-wire transmitters, providing greater wiring flexibility and adaptability in complex installations.
Q: What is the difference between AI931S and AI931N?
A: AI931S is intrinsically safe certified, suitable for Zone 1, and can connect to intrinsically safe devices in Zone 0/1.
AI931N is intended for general safety zones and does not have explosion-proof or intrinsic safety certification.
