Description

The 3500/72M Recip Rod Position Monitor is a 4-channel module designed to measure reciprocating compressor rod motion, rod drop, and hyper-compressor activity. Each 3500/72M channel accepts 1–4 proximity probe signals with 10 kΩ input impedance and conditions them to generate dynamic and static position measurements. Using the 3500 Rack Configuration Software, operators can set alert (1–60 s) and danger (0.1–60 s) thresholds for each measured value to trigger alarms and relays, ensuring automated monitoring of essential reciprocating machinery. The 3500/72M delivers nominal scale factors for rod position from 0.79–7.87 mV/µm, rod drop 3.94–7.87 mV/µm, and hyper-compressor 3.94–7.87 mV/µm. Signal conditioning accuracy is within ±0.33% full scale for direct position and amplitude measurements, and ±1° for rod position angles. The module operates at 7.7 W nominal, fits 1 front and 1 rear full-height rack slot, supports temperatures from -30°C to +65°C, and provides LEDs for OK, TX/RX, and Bypass status. With high-frequency response up to 600 Hz and precision notch filtering, the 3500/72M integrates seamlessly into automated compressor control and monitoring systems.

Applications

Measure Rod Motion using the 3500/72M to track reciprocating compressor rod position with scale factors from 0.79–7.87 mV/µm, enabling operators to detect abnormal rod travel in real time.

Detect Rod Drop with the 3500/72M by monitoring signals at 3.94–7.87 mV/µm to identify excessive rod clearance and prevent mechanical wear.

Analyze Hyper-Compressor Activity using the 3500/72M (3.94–7.87 mV/µm) to observe high-frequency rod motion and ensure proper compressor operation.

Trigger Automated Alarms with the 3500/72M using configurable alert (1–60 s) and danger (0.1–60 s) thresholds to notify operators of abnormal rod behavior or hyper-compressor events.

Provide Recorder Outputs through the 3500/72M to integrate measured values with SCADA or DCS systems for continuous performance monitoring.
