Description
The TU840 3BSE020846R1 is a module termination unit (MTU) for redundant configuration of Optical ModuleBus Modem TB840/TB840A.
The MTU is a passive unit having connections for power supply, double electrical ModuleBus, two TU840 3BSE020846R1/TB840A and a rotary switch for cluster address (1 to 7) setting.
Four mechanical keys, two for each position, are used to configured the MTU for the right types of modules. Each key has six positions, which gives a total number of 36 different configurations. The configurations can be changed with a screwdriver.
Termination Unit TU840 3BSE020846R1 connects TU840 3BSE020846R1/TB840A to redundant I/O. Termination Unit TU841 connects TU840 3BSE020846R1/TB840A to non-redundant I/O.

Applications
Oil refineries: Used for redundant communication in core production units to prevent production accidents caused by communication interruptions.
Coal power plants: Serves as the communication core of the generator unit's DCS system, ensuring real-time online control signals.
Offshore drilling farms: Provides double the link protection in harsh environments, responding to sudden failures caused by high salt spray at sea.
Fine chemical plants: Ensures high reliability of data acquisition and command issuance in continuous production lines.
Nuclear power plants: Used in the control cabinets of peripheral auxiliary systems with extremely high safety requirements.
Features and benefits
A rotary switch for cluster address setting
Mechanical keying prevents insertion of wrong module type
Double ModuleBus connection
Latching device to DIN rail for locking and grounding
DIN rail mounted
FAQ
Q: Does the TU840 3BSE020846R1 itself occupy a bus address?
A: No. TU840 3BSE020846R1 only provides physical and electrical connections; the logical address is determined by the communication module inserted into it.
Q: Can TU840 3BSE020846R1 accommodate non-redundant modules?
A: It is typically designed for redundant use, but physically a single communication module can be installed and operated (without redundancy).
Q: How many power inputs does TU840 3BSE020846R1 support?
A: TU840 3BSE020846R1 supports two independent 24V DC power inputs.
Q: Will a faulty TU840 3BSE020846R1 dock cause a complete system failure?
A: Yes. If the TU840 3BSE020846R1 hardware fails, communication across the entire S800 I/O cluster will be interrupted.
Q: What precautions should be taken when replacing the TU840 3BSE020846R1 dock?
A: A complete power-off is required, and because the entire I/O bus is involved, the cluster address and communication status must be re-verified after replacement.
