Description
Woodward's 5464-850 is a Digital Speed Sensor Module. It is mainly used to sense and calculate the operating speed of large rotating machinery. It can convert the mechanical dynamic changes generated by the rotation of machines such as engines, turbines, compressors or generators into electrical signals that the system can recognize, and send this data to the main controller.
Applications
Thermal power plant: Used in turbine overspeed protection with redundant speed sensing for safe operation.
Heavy chemical plant: Installed in compressor control for real-time speed data and fast anti-surge protection.
Marine industry: Used in diesel engines and generators for harsh oil-mist, high-heat environments.
Hydropower plant: Used in turbine speed measurement with multi-type analog signal compatibility.
Installation, Operation, and Hazard Prevention Guidelines
Hot-swapping is strictly forbidden. The 5464-850 speed signal is critical for turbine closed-loop control and overspeed protection. Before installing or replacing the board, fully disconnect rack power to avoid backplane arcing, port damage, data loss, or false trips.
A faulty speed card may cause severe overspeed risk. Safety rules require an independent hardware emergency shutdown device (not routed through this board or MicroNet system) to ensure forced shutdown in emergencies.
