Description
The 3500/90 Communication Gateway enables full communication of all rack-monitored signals and status data for industrial automation systems. Supporting Ethernet TCP/IP and serial interfaces (RS232, RS422, RS485), the 3500/90 allows seamless integration with process control systems and Bently Nevada™ 3500 Configuration and Data Acquisition Software. Communication protocols include Modbus RTU, Modbus/TCP, and the proprietary Bently Nevada protocol. The module features a Configurable Modbus Register Utility to transmit primary and auxiliary values efficiently. Operating temperatures range from -30°C to +65°C (-22°F to +149°F), with storage up to -40°C to +85°C (-40°F to +185°F) and 95% non-condensing humidity. Rack installation requires 1 full-height rear slot. Typical power consumption is 5.0 W for RS232/RS422 or 5.6 W for RS485 modules. Ethernet links run at 10 Mbps via RJ-45, conforming to IEEE 802.3, while OK and TX/RX LEDs indicate module operation and communication activity. The 3500/90 Communication Gateway delivers precise, configurable data transmission for automation applications, ensuring all monitored values are accessible across connected systems in real-time.
Applications
Integrate Rack Data into SCADA Systems
The 3500/90 Communication Gateway communicates all rack-monitored values and statuses to SCADA or DCS platforms using Ethernet TCP/IP at 10 Mbps or serial interfaces (RS232/RS422/RS485). With power consumption as low as 5.0 W for RS232/RS422 and 5.6 W for RS485, the 3500/90 Communication Gateway ensures energy-efficient continuous monitoring of all channels. Its wide operating temperature range of -30°C to +65°C guarantees reliable data exchange in industrial environments.
Connect to Configuration and Data Acquisition Software
By leveraging the BNCHost Protocol, the 3500/90 Communication Gateway provides Ethernet-based communication with 3500 Rack Configuration and Data Acquisition Software. The RJ-45 Ethernet interface and TCP/IP protocol enable high-speed data transfer with minimal latency, while the Configurable Modbus Register Utility allows the 3500/90 Communication Gateway to adapt Modbus registers for custom monitoring needs.
Implement Multi-Protocol Data Exchange
The 3500/90 Communication Gateway supports Modbus RTU, Modbus/TCP, and proprietary Bently Nevada protocols, allowing seamless integration between legacy serial devices and modern Ethernet-based systems. Its 95% non-condensing humidity tolerance ensures that the 3500/90 Communication Gateway can maintain reliable data exchange even in humid process environments.
Monitor High-Density Racks Efficiently
The 3500/90 Communication Gateway occupies only 1 full-height rear slot in the 3500 rack, enabling high-density system deployment. The OK and TX/RX LEDs on the 3500/90 Communication Gateway provide real-time visual confirmation of operational status and active communication, which is critical when managing multiple channels in industrial automation setups.

Competitive Advantage
Simplify Protocol Configuration
The 3500/90 Communication Gateway includes a Configurable Modbus Register Utility that replaces primary value Modbus registers. Users can define custom Modbus mappings, enabling the 3500/90 Communication Gateway to interface precisely with diverse control systems. The utility works efficiently under full operational loads, with the module consuming only 5–5.6 W depending on interface type.
Reduce Wiring and Communication Complexity
By combining Ethernet TCP/IP at 10 Mbps and serial communications (RS232/RS422/RS485) in a single module, the 3500/90 Communication Gateway eliminates the need for separate interface modules. Its small footprint of 1 full-height rear slot minimizes rack space usage while maintaining comprehensive multi-channel communication.
Enable Real-Time Monitoring
The 3500/90 Communication Gateway provides OK and TX/RX LED indicators that confirm operational and communication status at a glance. This allows technicians to monitor communication performance without additional equipment. The module’s Ethernet link and serial communication support continuous monitoring of multiple channels in real time.
Operate in Harsh Industrial Environments
With an operating temperature range of -30°C to +65°C, a storage temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, and 95% non-condensing humidity tolerance, the 3500/90 Communication Gateway maintains reliable operation in harsh industrial settings. Its low power consumption ensures stability and reduces heat output, even when handling multiple Modbus channels concurrently.
