Description
The 3300 NSv Proximity Probe is a highly specialized transducer system designed for precision monitoring of rotary and reciprocating machinery in industrial automation. It is particularly suited for centrifugal air compressors, refrigeration compressors, process gas compressors, and other equipment with stringent installation constraints. The 3300 NSv system excels in applications where conventional Bently Nevada 3300 and 3300 XL 5 mm or 8 mm transducer systems are limited due to counter bore, side-view, or rear-view restrictions.
This probe system is ideal for small target measurements, making it highly effective for monitoring radial vibration on shafts smaller than 51 mm (2 in) and axial positioning on flat targets under 15 mm (0.6 in). Its primary applications in fluid-film bearing machines include radial vibration measurement, axial (thrust) position monitoring, tachometer and zero-speed detection, and phase reference (Keyphasor) signal generation. These capabilities make it an essential component for automated condition monitoring and predictive maintenance programs in industrial facilities.
The 3300 NSv Proximity Probe is designed as a direct replacement for both the 3300 RAM transducer system and older 3000-series or 7000-series 190 transducers. Upgrades from the 3300 RAM system can utilize existing probes, extension cables, and monitoring infrastructure when paired with the 3300 NSv Proximitor Sensor. In contrast, systems migrating from the 3000-series or 7000-series require a full replacement of the probe, extension cable, and Proximitor Sensor with NSv components.
With an average scale factor of 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil), the NSv probe delivers industry-standard output for eddy current transducers. Its compact design and side-view capability offer a shorter linear range than standard 3300 XL 5 mm and 8 mm probes but still exceed the linear performance of the 3000-series 190 system, with a linear range of 1.5 mm (60 mils). Mechanically and electrically compatible with previous 3300 RAM probes, the NSv probe also features enhanced chemical resistance, supporting operation in harsh process compressor environments.
The probe is available in multiple configurations, including armored and unarmored cases with 1/4-28, 3/8-24, M8X1, and M10X1 threads. Reverse mount options are offered with 3/8-24 or M10X1 threads. All system components incorporate gold-plated ClickLoc connectors, which ensure secure connections and prevent loosening. Bently Nevada’s patented TipLoc molding and CableLoc designs enhance mechanical stability, providing 220 N (50 lb) pull strength and robust bonding between probe tip and body. Connector protectors are recommended to prevent liquid ingress and maintain reliable electrical signals between the probe, extension cable, and Proximitor Sensor.
In summary, the 3300 NSv Proximity Probe delivers precise, reliable, and flexible monitoring solutions for automated industrial applications, especially where space constraints, small target measurements, and harsh environments are present. Its advanced design ensures seamless integration into existing monitoring systems while improving measurement accuracy and reliability.
Applications
Radial Vibration and Position Monitoring
The 3300 NSv Proximity Probe is specially designed for measuring radial vibration and radial position on shafts with diameters smaller than 51 mm (2 inches). Its compact side-view design allows installation in tight spaces where standard probes cannot be used, ensuring precise vibration monitoring in small or constrained machinery.
Axial (Thrust) Position Measurement
This probe is ideal for axial position measurements on flat targets smaller than 15 mm (0.6 inches). It provides accurate thrust monitoring in fluid-filmed bearing machines, helping to detect misalignment or abnormal shaft movement early, which is critical for machinery protection.
Tachometer and Zero-Speed Detection
The 3300 NSv Proximity Probe supports high-precision tachometer functions and zero-speed detection. Its robust signal output enables reliable measurement of rotational speed in centrifugal air compressors, refrigeration compressors, and process gas compressors, even in harsh operating conditions.
Phase Reference and Keyphasor Signals
The probe can generate phase reference signals (Keyphasor signals) for advanced vibration and condition monitoring systems. This is essential for synchronizing vibration data with rotational events, enabling predictive maintenance and enhanced machinery diagnostics.
Retrofit and Upgrade Applications
The 3300 NSv system is compatible with older Bently Nevada 3300 RAM and 3000-/7000-series 190 Transducer Systems. It allows seamless upgrades using existing probes, extension cables, and monitoring systems where possible, reducing downtime and installation complexity. Its improved chemical resistance and side-view design make it suitable for process compressors and other challenging industrial environments.

Competitive Advantage
Compact and Flexible Design
The 3300 NSv probe features a compact side-view and reverse-mount design, making it ideal for installations with tight space constraints or restricted access. Its small target capability allows precise measurements on shafts smaller than 51 mm (2 inches) and flat targets below 15 mm (0.6 inches), outperforming traditional proximity probes in restricted environments.
High Accuracy and Reliable Output
With a linear range of 1.5 mm (60 mils) and a recommended gap setting of 1.0 mm (40 mils), the probe provides precise radial and axial vibration measurements. Its average scale factor of 7.87 V/mm ensures accurate eddy-current transducer output, while supply sensitivity of less than 2 mV per volt ensures signal stability under varying power conditions.
Enhanced Durability and Chemical Resistance
Constructed with AISI 304 stainless steel and a polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) probe tip, the 3300 NSv probe withstands extreme temperatures from -52°C to +177°C (-62°F to +351°F) and harsh chemical environments. This allows reliable operation in process compressors and other industrial machinery where standard probes may fail.
Seamless Compatibility and Retrofit Capability
The NSv system is mechanically and electrically compatible with previous 3300 RAM and 3000-/7000-series 190 Transducer Systems. This backward compatibility simplifies upgrades, allowing users to retain existing extension cables and monitoring systems, reducing installation costs and downtime.
Robust Connectivity and Secure Installation
Equipped with gold-plated ClickLoc connectors and the patented CableLoc and TipLoc designs, the 3300 NSv probe ensures secure, reliable connections. Connector protectors prevent liquid ingress, maintaining signal integrity even in challenging industrial environments.
