Description
The VME-PROFI is a compete independent PROFIBUS-interface for the VMEbus. The interface is based on the PBM-ASIC which handles the whole layer 1 / 2 of the PROFIBUS protocol (DIN 19245). Through the MC 68331 processor with onboard Flash-EPROM the board can run complete independent without loading any PROFIBUS software from the host VMEbus CPU. 64 kB dualport-RAM are used as data interface to the VMEbus. The integration of a PROFIBUS-interface (DP-Master or DP-Slave) in a VMEbus-system can easily be realized with the VME-PROFI independent from the used operating system. The VME-PROFI can handle different PROFIBUS—protocols. The firmware for the PROFIBUS-DPMaster (class 1) and for the PROFIBUS-DP-Slave protocol are available.
Safety precautions
• The device may only be used in subracks that meet the requirements of the following VMEbus standards: ANSI/IEEE STD1014-1987, IEC 821 and 297 [2]
• The device may only be switched on if installed properly.
• The device must be disconnected from the VCC power supply prior to connecting or disconnecting hardware interfaces. Handle with care! The device must be protected from electrostatic discharge (see EN 100015-1).
• This device uses, produces and may emit high-frequency signals. Operation of the device may be disturbed by strong high-frequency signals. The device has been designed by DMS for a high degree of electromagnetic compatibility, e.g. galvanic separated front interfaces, multi-layer technology, etc. have been ineerporated in the design. Please make sure that the device is used in compliance with all applicable regulations regarding electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). See „Declaration of Conformity" in the Preface chapter.

Installation
The VME-PROF-M needs a 64 kByte address space in the VME standard address room. The start address is set by HEX switches S1 and S2.
S2 is the MSD (A23..A20) and S 1 the LSD (A19..A16).
Example: address 0x85000 set S2 on 8 and S1 on 5
Please set the run jumper, so VME-PROF-M starts immediately after the Reset. Please switch the VMEbus system off before you start mounting the VME-PROF-M. Please use both screws on the front panel to make sure the grounding.
