Description

The 3500/42E Vibration Monitor is a four-channel machinery protection module for Bently Nevada™ 3500 automation racks. The 3500/42E Vibration Monitor accepts 1 to 4 proximity, velocity, or acceleration transducer inputs with 10 kΩ input impedance and conditions signals for radial vibration, thrust position, differential expansion, shaft absolute, eccentricity, acceleration, and velocity measurements. Each channel in the 3500/42E Vibration Monitor compares real-time data to programmable Alert and Danger setpoints to drive automated alarm and trip outputs.

The 3500/42E Vibration Monitor consumes 6.8 W typical while delivering precision scaling such as 3.94 mV/µm or 7.87 mV/µm for displacement, 10 mV/(m/s²) for acceleration, and up to 20 mV/(mm/s) peak for velocity. Differential expansion sensitivity of 0.394 mV/µm enables low-level axial growth detection in turbine systems. Buffered transducer outputs per channel provide short-circuit protected signal transmission to analysis systems. Front-panel OK, ALERT, DANGER, and Bypass LEDs allow direct status indication. The 3500/42E Vibration Monitor supports continuous vibration comparison and automated shutdown control in compressor and generator protection cabinets.

Applications

Measure Radial Vibration at 3.94 mV per Micrometer Scaling

The 3500/42E Vibration Monitor processes proximity probe inputs with selectable sensitivity of 3.94 mV/µm or 7.87 mV/µm. This scaling allows the 3500/42E Vibration Monitor to convert shaft displacement directly into calibrated vibration values and compare them to Alert and Danger setpoints. With 10 kΩ input impedance, the 3500/42E Vibration Monitor ensures accurate signal transfer from up to four transducers in turbine and compressor protection systems.

Monitor Shaft Velocity up to 20 mV per Millimeter per Second

The 3500/42E Vibration Monitor accepts velocity inputs with sensitivity options of 20 mV/(mm/s) peak, 5.8 mV/(mm/s) peak, or 4 mV/(mm/s) peak. By converting these signals into real-time velocity measurements, the 3500/42E Vibration Monitor enables automated shutdown when vibration levels exceed defined mm/s thresholds.

Detect Differential Expansion at 0.394 mV per Micrometer

Using 0.394 mV/µm or 0.787 mV/µm scaling, the 3500/42E Vibration Monitor captures low-level axial growth in rotating machinery. The 3500/42E Vibration Monitor compares expansion data against programmed limits to drive alarm relays before mechanical contact occurs.

Process Acceleration Signals at 10 mV per Meter per Second Squared

The 3500/42E Vibration Monitor supports acceleration inputs at 10 mV/(m/s²) or 100 mV/g, enabling detection of high-frequency vibration events. Buffered transducer outputs per channel allow the 3500/42E Vibration Monitor to forward conditioned signals to external analysis systems while maintaining automated protection functions.

Competitive Advantage

Monitor Four Channels with Low Power Load

The 3500/42E Vibration Monitor supports up to 4 proximity, velocity, or acceleration channels while consuming only 6.8 W typical. This allows multiple 3500/42E Vibration Monitor modules to be installed in a single 3500 rack without exceeding total rack power limits, ensuring continuous protection for complex machinery systems.

Measure Multi-Parameter Signals in One Module

With the 3500/42E Vibration Monitor, users can simultaneously measure radial vibration (3.94–7.87 mV/µm), thrust (3.94–7.87 mV/µm), eccentricity (3.94–7.87 mV/µm), differential expansion (0.394–0.787 mV/µm), velocity (4–20 mV/(mm/s) peak), and acceleration (10 mV/(m/s²) or 100 mV/g). This high-density functionality reduces the need for additional modules while maintaining detailed automated monitoring using the 3500/42E Vibration Monitor.

Provide Short-Circuit Protected Buffered Outputs

Each channel of the 3500/42E Vibration Monitor includes a coaxial buffered output rated for short-circuit protection. With an output impedance maximum of 504 Ω, the 3500/42E Vibration Monitor allows reliable connection to external diagnostics and data acquisition systems without affecting alarm logic.
