Description
The ABB DAO01 is a remote analog output module in the AC31 series. It receives commands from the main control unit via the CS31 bus, converts them into standard analog signals, and drives field actuators.
Applications
Paper mills: Controlling the speed of frequency converters to synchronize the speed chains of different sections of the paper machine.
Glass factories: Adjusting the opening of gas proportional valves to precisely control furnace temperature.
Chemical plants: Driving regulating valves to control the flow rate or pressure of liquids in reactors.
Cement plants: Adjusting the speed of the feeder to ensure continuous and stable production lines.
Textile mills: Used for tension control and proportional valve actuation in dyeing and finishing equipment.
Installation and Maintenance
Install in a clean, enclosed cabinet meeting IP54 standards, especially if located near dusty or humid areas. Ensure adequate spacing (at least 10 mm) on both sides for heat dissipation—even though power draw is modest, ambient temperature adds up in dense racks. Wiring should use 1.5 mm² stranded copper with ferrules, particularly for output loads exceeding 2 A. Avoid sharing common return paths with high-noise equipment. For maintenance, check relay contacts annually if cycling frequently, and verify firmware version during system audits (though updates are rare). No calibration required—it’s all discrete signaling.
FAQ
Q: Can each channel of the DAO01 output different signals?
A: Yes, it can be configured via PLC software to output voltage for channels 1-4 and current for channels 5-8.
Q: What is the maximum transmission distance for outputting current signals on the DAO01?
A: The 4-20mA signal has strong anti-interference capabilities and can typically transmit over several hundred meters, but the line resistance must not exceed the module's maximum drive impedance.
Q: How do I change the station number of the DAO01 module?
A: There is a hardware DIP switch on the side of the module or on the base. Set it to the desired address in binary mode.
Q: What will the output value be if the CS31 bus of the DAO01 is disconnected?
A: It will usually remain at the last valid value or reset to 0 (a safe value can be set in the PLC configuration software).
Q: Does the DAO01 module support AC500 systems?
A: It is not directly plugged into the AC500 bus. It needs to be used as a slave station via a CS31 communication module (such as CI592).
