Description
The 3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Probe is a high-precision eddy current transducer designed for advanced industrial automation and condition monitoring. This probe provides an output voltage directly proportional to the distance between the probe tip and the target conductive surface, enabling accurate measurement of both static position and dynamic vibration. Featuring a 3/8-24 UNF threaded case with a maximum thread engagement of 0.563 in and a linear range of 2 mm (80 mils), the 3300 XL ensures precise and repeatable measurements in demanding environments. Its CSA, ATEX, and IECEx approvals, along with a wide operating temperature range from -52°C to +177°C (-62°F to +350°F), make it suitable for hazardous and extreme conditions.
The probe incorporates the patented TipLoc molding for enhanced mechanical strength between the probe tip and body, and the CableLoc design, delivering 330 N (75 lbf) pull strength to secure the probe cable. The standard 0.5-meter (1.6 feet) miniature coaxial ClickLoc cable can be upgraded with the optional FluidLoc system to prevent fluid leakage through the cable interface. The 3300 XL 8 mm system complies with API 670 standards for mechanical configuration, linearity, and temperature stability, ensuring reliability and full interchangeability of probes, extension cables, and Proximitor sensors. This system is backward compatible with 5 mm and other 8 mm 3300 series components, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of automation applications.
Applications
1. Vibration Monitoring in Fluid-Film Bearings
The 3300 XL 8 mm probe precisely monitors shaft vibration in pumps, turbines, and compressors. With a linear range of 2 mm, it detects micro-vibrations down to 50 µm, ensuring early fault detection and reducing unplanned downtime.
2. Position Measurement for Rotating Machinery
The probe accurately measures rotor and shaft position in industrial machinery. Its supply sensitivity of <2 mV per volt ensures stable readings even under fluctuating input voltage conditions.
3. Speed and Keyphasor Reference Signals
Using the 3300 XL 8 mm probe in combination with Proximitor sensors provides high-resolution speed and phase reference signals for critical rotating equipment. It supports automated speed control and condition monitoring systems.
4. Harsh Environment Operation
Rated for -52°C to +177°C (-62°F to +350°F), the probe operates reliably in extreme temperatures and hazardous areas, including ATEX and IECEx certified zones, ideal for petrochemical and energy industry automation.
5. Integration into Condition Monitoring Systems
The 3300 XL 8 mm transducer seamlessly integrates with digital monitoring systems for real-time diagnostics. Its 50 Ω output resistance and field wiring compatibility (16–24 AWG) allow straightforward connection to industrial controllers and PLCs.
