Description
The Velomitor CT Velocity Transducer (model 190501-02-00-04) is a high-precision piezo-velocity sensor designed for industrial automation and vibration monitoring applications. Engineered for low-frequency measurements, it specializes in capturing casing vibration velocity on cooling tower and air-cooled heat exchanger fan assemblies operating at 90 rpm or higher, with typical fan speeds ranging from 100 to 300 rpm. The transducer accurately detects both vibration amplitudes and the specific vibration frequencies generated by fan motors and speed reducers, making it ideal for predictive maintenance, equipment monitoring, and automated performance analysis.
Constructed from 316L stainless steel, the Velomitor CT transducer features a MIL-C-5015 two-pin connection and offers mounting flexibility with 3/8-in–24 to 1/2-in–20 stud options, allowing installation at any orientation on a 33 mm diameter mounting surface. With a sensitivity of 3.94 mV/mm/s (100 mV/in/s ±5%), a frequency response of 3 Hz to 900 Hz ±1 dB, and temperature compensation from -40°C to +85°C, it provides reliable vibration measurements under extreme industrial conditions. The transducer is approved for hazardous environments with CSA/NRTL/C (Class I, Division 1) and ATEX/IECEx/CSA (Class I, Zone 0/1) certifications, and it can withstand shock up to 5000 g and 100% condensing humidity. Its robust design ensures long-term operational stability in automated industrial systems.
Applications
Cooling Tower Fan Monitoring
The Velomitor CT accurately measures vibration velocity on cooling tower fans operating between 100–300 rpm, enabling early detection of mechanical imbalance, blade defects, or misalignment, preventing downtime and maintaining optimal energy efficiency.
Air-Cooled Heat Exchanger Fan Assessment
Designed for low-frequency operation, the sensor captures vibrations caused by fan motors and speed reducers, providing automated monitoring data to enhance heat exchanger reliability in petrochemical and power plants.
Predictive Maintenance Programs
Integration with automated monitoring systems allows real-time vibration data collection for predictive maintenance, reducing unexpected failures and lowering operational costs.
Rotating Machinery Diagnostics
The transducer provides high-sensitivity measurements of machinery casing vibrations, assisting in fault diagnostics for speed reducers, motor bearings, and fan assemblies, ensuring continuous operational reliability.
Industrial Automation Feedback Control
Data from the Velomitor CT can feed into automated control systems for vibration-based performance optimization, enabling automated alerts and corrective actions in critical industrial processes.
