Description

The Honeywell MU-TPIX12 51304084-100 is a high-performance Pulse Input Module used for use in Honeywell’s Distributed Control Systems (DCS), including Experion PKS. It can receive and condition pulse signals from field devices such as flow meters, encoders, and counters, converting them into clean digital signals.

Applications

Oil Refineries: High-frequency pulse acquisition for turbine flow meters in pipeline metering and custody transfer.

Chemical Plants: Fast update rate enables real-time monitoring of dosing pumps and process flow control.

Thermal Power Plants: High-accuracy frequency measurement for turbine and pump speed monitoring in noisy environments.

Natural Gas Plants: Noise filtering improves stability of distributed metering signals in pipeline stations.

Beverage Filling Plants: High-speed pulse detection for encoder counting in automated packaging and sorting lines.

Troubleshooting

Pulse counting stops (missed pulses): Check 3-wire transmitter power. If shorted, current is limited to 150 mA. Verify pulse levels: high > +3.5 V and low < +1.9 V; otherwise Schmitt trigger will not switch.

Data jumps / noise counts: Caused by contact bounce or EMI. If real frequency is low, enable IOP filter jumper: H range limits to 10 kHz, L range to 1 kHz.

Long-distance signal loss / waveform distortion: Input impedance is 10 kΩ; cable capacitance distorts edges at high frequency, violating 25 μs pulse width. Shorten cable or add signal amplifier.
