Description

The Bently Nevada™ 3500/45 Position Monitor is a four-channel automation device that accepts 1 to 4 inputs from Proximitor, RPT, DC LVDT, AC LVDT, or rotary potentiometers. Each channel of the 3500/45 Position Monitor conditions signals to measure axial thrust, differential expansion, ramp differential expansion, case expansion, and valve position. Using 3500 Rack Configuration Software, alert and danger setpoints are programmable for all measured variables. Operating at 7.7 W with input impedance from 10 kΩ to 1 MΩ, the 3500/45 Position Monitor achieves ±0.33% full-scale typical accuracy for thrust, differential expansion, and valve position. Frequency responses of direct and gap filters are -3 dB at 1.2 Hz and 0.41 Hz, respectively. Thrust and differential expansion sensitivities range from 3.94 to 7.87 mV/μm, and ramp differential expansion reaches up to 7.874 V/mm. The 3500/45 Position Monitor communicates precise position data to operations and maintenance, enabling automated machine control, real-time monitoring, and alarm-driven responses in industrial systems.

Applications

Application in Axial Thrust Position Monitoring

The Bently Nevada™ 3500/45 Position Monitor measures axial thrust using inputs from Proximitor or LVDT sensors. Each of the four channels conditions the signal and generates measured variables with ±0.33% full-scale typical accuracy. Thrust sensitivity ranges from 3.94 to 7.87 mV/μm, enabling the 3500/45 Position Monitor to detect precise axial movement and trigger alarm setpoints in automated machinery.

Application in Differential and Ramp Expansion Tracking

The 3500/45 Position Monitor monitors differential expansion and ramp differential expansion, with sensitivities from 0.394 mV/μm up to 7.874 V/mm. Direct and gap filters (-3 dB at 1.2 Hz and 0.41 Hz) allow accurate measurement of thermal expansion or mechanical shifts. The 3500/45 Position Monitor provides data for automated control systems to adjust machinery or generate alarms when thresholds are exceeded.

Application in Valve Position Monitoring

The 3500/45 Position Monitor interfaces with rotary potentiometers or LVDTs to track valve positions with ±0.33% full-scale typical accuracy. Direct and gap filter responses ensure that the 3500/45 Position Monitor captures rapid valve movements for real-time control and alarm triggering in automated industrial systems.

Specifications

Ramp Differential Expansion Sensitivity

0.394 V/mm (10 mV/mil), 0.787 V/mm (20 mV/mil), 3.937 V/mm (100 mV/mil), or 7.874 V/mm (200 mV/mil)

Thrust and Differential ExpansioAccuracy

Alarm Setpoints

Use the 3500 Rack Configuration Software to set alert and danger levels for the direct values measured by the monitor. Alarms are adjustable from 0 to 100% of full-scale for each measured value. However, when the full-scale range exceeds the range of the transducer, the range of the transducer will limit the setpoint.

Accuracy of alarm setpoints

Competitive Advantage

Competitive Advantage Precise Multi-Sensor Input Analysis

The 3500/45 Position Monitor accepts 1 to 4 signals from Proximitor, RPT, DC LVDT, AC LVDT, and rotary potentiometers. Input impedance ranges from 10 kΩ to 1 MΩ, allowing accurate measurement across different sensor types. This enables the 3500/45 Position Monitor to quantify axial and differential movement precisely for automated machinery control.

Competitive Advantage Configurable Alarm Setpoints

Using 3500 Rack Configuration Software, the 3500/45 Position Monitor allows programmable alert and danger setpoints for each measured variable. Alarm accuracy is within 0.13% of the desired value. The 3500/45 Position Monitor automates alarm triggering for axial, expansion, and valve position measurements, reducing operator intervention.

Competitive Advantage Real-Time Monitoring and Automation

The 3500/45 Position Monitor communicates measured variables directly to operations and maintenance systems. With 7.7 W typical power consumption and 1-slot rack footprint, the 3500/45 Position Monitor integrates seamlessly into automated setups, providing continuous machine position data for immediate corrective actions and automated process control.
